It does disturb me all the news and activities that are lead by the Jordanian Left party against the Jordan Summer Festival. Their base point of objection is on the French multinational advertising and communications company Publicis who are organizing the event and who happened to be the organizer of the Israeli celebrations for their 60 years independance.
The truth is that even after more than 15 years old of a peace treaty between Jordan and Israel, the Israeli issue is still a very sensitive matter to the Jordanian people in particular and to the Arabic people at large. I would recommend more governmental advertisment aka the ones of Jordan first to help getting more acceptance and backing for the peace treaty, but that is all a different matter. The matter here is that the Jordanian Left party is using this sensitive issue in order to fail the Jordanian Summer Festival.
While our sub-democtaric system allows such social political movements, and I personally do respect freedom of speech and people’s right to stand for what they believe in, I find it sad to watch some democratic means help in not only damaging the image of Jordan but also the economical benefits that the government has been relying on out of this festival. It is one thing to object on a certain policy and to ask for a change, and another thing to call for a boycott and failure of a major event that had a lot of money spent on and a lot of hope and expectations were built upon.
So how much awarnace do people have of Publicis as a company? Does the Left Party know the amount of years this company has been serving the local Jordanian market? and we have any official statistics of their market share? I personally remember several awards they boasted in the newspaper last year after the Jordanian Ad Awards summit.
And are we start boycotting any multi/inter national company that deals with Israel? If yes, we would better off start with shutting down the computer we are working on! That would be more damaging to our economy, isn’t it? and would just raise our sense of patriotism and make us feel of how good of arabas and citizens we are!
People, object as much as you like, but please, please, please, try to build instead of destroy. Suggest alternatives, pressure to get what you believe is right, but don’t, don’t destroy any attempt that can possibly bring us more money under this difficult economic situation.

Absolutely agree with you. So are we going to boycott Carrefour because they use Publicis? Plus the other companies? This company is world wide and it’s CEO is a French jew. I think we are just shooting ourselves in the foot with this ridiculous boycott. I just wish the energy used in all of this was channelled into something useful which benefits Jordan. Personally I stopped going to the Jerash Festival years ago when the standards dropped and the organisation was not good. Come on, let us support our fellow Arab artists and Jordan instead of giving our neighbours to the west something to snigger at. T

The vast majority of Jordanians do not want piece with Israel. Simply because Israel is a country based on racism. So give me a break man!

i dont understand,lets say, that we are going to boycott this festival.and lets say, that in effect, a lot of the celebrities that actually did sign up for coming decline at the last minute,by doing so, millions of the money spent (i heard it was about 3 Mil. for the ads alone, both Outdoors and printed), will go to shred,not forgetting off-course the damage that will do to our country’s reputation, especially that this festival has nothing to build up on, in Jerash, we went because it was Jerash! now its Jordan’s festival, which is something built up from scratch, and the Ministry is doing its best to pull it off, and they we decide to boycott itokay, lets do that, and burn down all the money spent on this effort, am sure that is going to be shocking some israel’s ground… this is just plain stupid!

If we’re going to boycott company’s run by Jews we’ll not be able to eat, drink, read, watch movies or TV. We won’t be able to sell Oil, or make -ironically- any music. Do you know what the problem is? it is that the government said that publicis is not doing the event, but no one believes it. Becuase the goverment lies and lies and lies and then lies till you cannot remember anything they said that proved to be right. I think the parliament is an absolute joke, they objected to the festival because they said the jordanian people are passing difficult economic times and then raised their salaries to 2500 and fra6a… anno thank God i did not vote for any of them, they are disgusting, they make me feel sick, sick sick sick!Now if people want to boycott it, it is their right. Personally i am not gonna miss out on Diana, but can understand the sentiments of the people who want to boycott it. And it all comes down to our goverments’ actions, because people see the World Economic Forum and the Noble Prize forum mocking them in their face, and also organized by publicis, and cannot do anything, it is only natural they would jump to the opportunity of boycotting something they can boycott… assuming the average jordanian can afford the ticket.Again, i am not boycotting, but i can see why people are. And Fadi, stop your delusions about the parliament and democracy in Jordan.

I want to start off by saying that I am Jordanian of Palestinian origin, from Jerusalem actually I am very proud of my Jordanian nationality and of my Palestinian origin. Over the last few weeks the company I represent in Jordan has been attacked by persons who have a very different objective and are only using Publicis as a scapegoat to express their true feelings.To start, I build on the words of His Majesty King Abdullah the Second, who came out last Wednesday and gave an example of Intel. A company that contributes amounts to Israel every year…what are we supposed to do, stop using computers that have intel inside them? Their relationship to israel is very clear and has no fabrication (as the case of Jordan Festival) so all those in favor of boycott should use the same principle and turn off their desktops or laptops and find another way of communicating because 85% of PC’s around the world are intel based…As his Majesty stated, such actions would give a technological advancement to Israel, imagine the advancement of Jordan and the Arab world without computers.As Publicis Graphics Jordan we are a proud Jordanian entity that employees over 130 persons between all our companies, each of us is proud of our nationality and each of us is proud of the fact that we belong to a Global network that is French in origin. Anyway maybe this is too drawn out, but this is the first official comment I make about the case, so I will summarize:A. Publicis DID NOT manage the 60th anniversary of Israel.B. Maurice Levy’s statement was mis-quoted and a large portion of it was left out “I am a friend of Israel…” the part that says “and Palestine, was lost in translation”C. Publicis is not managing the Jordan FestivalD. During the last WEF held in Jordan Maurice Levy introduced a campaign titled IMAGINE that was a joint effort between an equal number of Palestinian and Israeli creative talents, working together to create a campaign that DEMANDED peace.E. Maurice Levy does not own Publicis, it is a company listed on the French stock exchangeF. the list of lies that media claimed in Jordan goes on and on…this list of lies was insulting and the fact that some people were willing to accept these lies was even more insulting.I leave you with a a few questions…1. Did any of you try and buy tickets to opening night of the Jordan Festival…it was difficult wasn’t it, Why?
