Change my family name!

Is it easy to change your family name in Jordan?
Before bashing me
You don’t have to change yours
I am talking about myself
and other people who would like to change theirs
as I know how much people in this country are pround of their family names
They build their identity..
Their safety..
Their relationships with others..
Their job potential..
Values…

For instance, if you want to call Batir
You say Wardam
and if you want to call Pheras
You say Hilal
and if you want to call Naseem
You say Tarawnah

They used to call me Zaghmout at school!
Based on my famiy name
Sometimes Zagnoot or Zaghloot or Sakhmout!
o those who hated me they said Sharmoot! :S

And I have always fought to set them clear
that my name is FADI!
and that my identity isn’t derived from my family name
Not because I am better than those people who derive their identity from their family names
but because (I hate to admit it)
My family name is quite weird
(how would I put it in a delicate way?)
and not so nice
and hard to spell
and is close in definition to za’3noot
as of very tiny!

My grandmother told me that my grand grand grand father used to have a small finger in his hand
that is why they called him zaghmout!
But why the hell I have to be connected to that old long forgotten man with the small finger?!?!
I mean, it isn’t like he bore thousands of children whom dominated this area of land!
The only Zaghameet left in Jordan are me, my father, and brothers!
(along with some few others)
But seriously, can’t I just change my last name?
I want to derive it from my own name
like fawaydeh for instance
Fadi Fawaydeh
Cool name, don’t you think so?
and my children would inherit it
for instance Faris Fadi Fawaydeh!
Perfect!
and my grand grand children would always carry my name
and refer to their greatest grand father
(which is me if you didn’t follow what I have been saying)

and then I would be starting Al Fawaydeh tribe
and I would encourage my children to procreate
Procreate, procreate, procreate
till we expand in numbers
till we become more than Al Abbadeyye
Natasha don’t get upset with me – I know that we would never reach your numbers!

But I seriously envy you!
I don’t have such tribal support!
But I will get it with Al fawaydeh
I give you my word!

Does anyone know how easy it is to change one’s family name?

  1. Well, changing your name shouldn’t be tough at all… Probably they will first investigate your background so as to make sure your are not changing your name to get away from a crime, or do something of an illegal nature… But seriously, a name is just a name… Its nothing to be proud of, neither be ashamed of!! My last name is “Marji”, in my old school all used to call me by my last name, and it was okay… Even more some colleges used to call me “My Cum” as an English version of my last name… Actually, I find it funny… I sometime tell people that my last name is Marji because we masturbate a lot!!!Last names (and first names as well) are stupid… Don’t let em get to you!!

You have the coolest last name ever!

  3. I myself actually belong to one of the most major families of jordan, probably the most major (in terms of population)! I won’t say what it is.Hmmm well you question the importance of the last name but by wanting to change it I think you’re giving it alot of importance. I don’t think you should change it!It’s been my experience that we call people by their last names just because too many have their first name, like sara, or mohammad!

  4. dude there’s nothing wrong with your last name, at all, there are a lot of many family names that sound so funny but they don’t care as much as you do.In any way, here are my suggestion: If you wanna stay in Jordan change it to Majali and you’ll end up in some important position when you’re 50. If you wanna live in the US change it to Goldman and you’ll join the college you want or get the job desire

  5. OK so I don’t want to laugh at ylur perdecemnt but “But why the hell I have to be connected to that old long forgotten man with the small finger?!?!” , was it a code for something else … HAHAHAHAH …made me laugh ..LOL.I suggest you pick a name that can be Arabic and English at the same time like …hmmmm…Fadi Noo7 (Noah) or fadi yakoub (fadi jacob, they will think you were jewish hehhehehe )

  6. Fadi, when I’m dealing with American customers, they always end up calling me honey instead of Hani. Well when its a woman, its actually nice🙂but in any case its an ice-breaker. Its a quick way to make a connection with the person you just met. If anyone tries to pick on you because of your name, chances are they’re not worth knowing anyway.

  7. Hamede, they have to like it, they have no choice!😛DM, ops, now I appreciate mine after knowing yours! lol. Heheeh, actually it is funny how people like ot make jokes out of names. Maybe I sounded more annoyed than I actually am with my last name. It doesn’t really bother me but not something I would choose as well.Qwaider, I thought it is hard to change your last name. I am too lazy to get with those procedures, but if I one day I had time and family approval I may go for it😛and Fawaydeh, mesh Qwaider (with all due respect :P)Bakkouz, it there? I should investigate. Do I have to take their permession then?Asoom, but there has been only me and my sister at school with the same last name, and yet people were calling me with it! hareega, majali sounds cool! I just need their permission, dont I?jad, AL HAMDULALLAH!🙂7aki fadi, no it wasnt a code for something else! lol hehehe, you are bad!🙂Mmmm, Noah, Jacob or Adam sounds good, but fawaydeh is just like me😛Hani Obeid, honey! lol. Yes, it can be somethimes🙂

  8. 3ammi, if there’s already a Fawaydeh family out there, that’s great for you. Just join their tribe, pretend you’re their long last cousin, and tell them that it is tradition for them to watch your back. That way, you can relax and not have to worry about the procreate, procreate, procreate part.Although I can see how that part could be fun.Right, I’m gonna go back to work now, bikafeeni for one morning, no?😉

  10. Dear FADI FAWAYDEH🙂 … I guess u should go the department of home affairs with copy of this post … and i’m sure thy will consider it .. :)) BUT!! … this wont be the hard part .. bcoz all the difficalties will come later … 1- (mn ween bla so3’ra ? ) … where u from *without tinninessty* ? … :p .. what u gonna say .. ? .. fawaydeh ramalla or fawaydeh 3ajloon ? ,,,🙂 the next think is … fawaydehet el karak beygrabolak ? … and what about el fawadeytat from irbid ? … it gonna be this way .. and as u wont belong to any tribe … then all your study and certificates will worth just NOTHING as u don’t have a HUGE! tribe stamp on yr job application … ! 2- your son (faris fadi el fawaydeh ) .. he will suffer the same shit as will but with more difficulties as he wont have any cousins to use them as determent weapon against his school mates .. then when he’s 18 and he tend to participate in *Supper start* first of all thy will like his name (esm fanni ) … and ppl will start to talk that he changed his name and droped his name to have esm fanni .. and when he ask jordan want to vote from him he will lose all the votes as every one in jordan will think he belongs to the other side !!! … so he will change the direction as ask mozumpeqe to vote for him … he might be lucky and find a HUGE tribe called FAWAYDEH in mozumpeqe to adopt him …anyways … go to the home affairs … thy will help u😉 … i’m going ma self after aid to change ma name to AL RAMERAT … *i’m looking for political position *😉 …Cheers

  13. *laughs*what’s wrong with zaghmout? *laughs more*it is funny how people build images and perceptions just from your name. My last name is “taha” and it looks like I’ve disappointed every Sudanese person out there who from hearing my name thought I am Sudanese because I have a Sudanese name.hehehe
